Press release: Witness the Fitness

Media Advisory October 10, 2006 Witness the Fitness at Queen's Haynes Hall Kingston, Ont. – On October 12, at sunset, a virtual fitness school will appear on the walls of Haynes Hall in Kingston, located on the corner of Clarence Street and Brock Street. The exhibit will run from 7 pm to 1 am on Thursday October 12 through Sunday October 15. ‘Witness the Fitness’ is an exceptional video installation that uses the windows of downtown Kingston’s Haynes Hall as a digital canvas to temporarily transform the building, now a medical clinic, into a larger-than-life fitness centre. The digital artwork creation features sweat-covered fitness enthusiasts carrying out cardiovascular training routines. Paul Wolterink, a Dutch media artist in residence at Queen’s Human Media Lab, is the creator of the exhibit. According to the artist, “Witness the Fitness explores alienation in a society without anchors. Today, any location can be anything anytime. In this piece, life literally operates at the speed of light, creating artificial environments in odd locations. Reality is already on TV, and this places TV inside reality.” The piece was produced by Queen’s Human Media Laboratory at the School of Computing, where the artist is working on the creation of interactive projection art. The festival celebrates Kingston's eclectic sound culture, alongside the work of highly regarded international audio artists.
