Graduate Opportunities

The Human Media Lab is growing and we are actively seeking new PhD students. We offer a forward looking research environment that studies how emerging technologies will impact future interactions. In 2009, we will move into a new lab designed by world-renowned designer Karim Rashid.

About Us

The Human Media Lab is one of Canada's premier HCI laboratories. Its mandate is to develop disruptive technologies and new ways of working with computers that are viable 10 to 20 years from now. We are currently working on the design of Organic User Interfaces (Oui!), an exciting new paradigm that allows computers to have any shape or form. The Human Media Lab is located in Kingston, Ontario named the smartest city in Canada. Our director is Roel Vertegaal, one of the world's experts on eye communication between humans, and between humans and technology. His work on Attentive User Interfaces (AUI) was featured in media across the globe, from Good Morning America to Scientific American. Roel established alt.chi as the alternative papers venue at the annual ACM SIGCHI conference and advised the National Academy of Sciences.
